Coffee Background: The Shanta Golba cooperative is part of the Sidama Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (SCFCU), a prominent organization comprising 53 member cooperatives and over 80,000 member households throughout the Sidama Zone. The cooperative is committed to sustainable and organic farming practices, providing essential training to farmers and investing in local infrastructure improvements.

Unlike most of Sidama, Shanta Golba specializes in natural process coffees, which involve drying whole coffee cherries slowly in a single layer on raised beds. This method requires significant investment in drying space and labor, with over 100 employees dedicated to maintaining the drying process.

Founded in 1976, Shanta Golba has a long history of supporting smallholder farmers, providing them with access to micro-credit, environmental training programs, healthcare initiatives, and educational opportunities. The cooperative's dedication to improving the quality of life for its members and their families is evident in every cup of coffee they produce.
